Everyone thats ever had to ride or follow me knows ..we stop, a must see for history buffs .oh did i say it was the beginning of the real up north?
Very cool place to visit. It was getting dark when I went, but I still took some nice pictures. I seen there are candles to purchase for $3.00 each. I would recommend that people visit this monument.
Theres something "mistic" about the site...most of the time its on the way up -I get my "blessing" at least a couple of times in a year -i have walked down at different seasons and each time holds another surprise of flowers in the spring and summer ,to Bishop Baraga surrounded in snow....read his story-light a candle...or check out the little gift shop (I hear they make Pasties on occasion)
Everytime I come up this way or on the way back I always stop.
There's nothing like it in the area, but be prepared for a lot of religious stuff everywhere. Take in the view of the statue, look out over Keweenaw Bay, and carry on. Watch out for donation boxes, they're all over the place.
